Also known as antenatal classes or prenatal classes these are designed to prepare parents to be for birth and ease the transition into early parenting.
Antenatal classes are offered by hospitals but they can be rather full and some find them impersonal.
The courses I offer are usually for 2-5 couples. They are intensive, interactive, informative and fun. I use a range of teaching styles to help you absorb the details in the way you may learn best.
I recommend attending these classes between 24 and 36 weeks of your pregnancy.
The following will be covered in the course:
The stages of labour and birthCoping strategies for labour and birthThe role of the birthing partnerPositions for labour and birthingHow to reduce the risk of interventionsWhen things do not go according to what you had planned (- coveringinduction, augmentation, instrumental deliveries)
Breastfeeding and the first week at home with your baby
